I'm gonna be real with you, working through the job market as a trans person in 2025 has been a whole experience. I've lived it, and not gonna lie, it's become so much better than it was just a few years ago.

My Start: Starting In the Job Market

The first time I transitioned at work, I was literally terrified. No cap, I figured my job prospects was done. But surprisingly, the situation ended up so much better than I thought possible.

The first place I worked after transitioning was with a progressive firm. The vibe was immaculate. My coworkers used my proper name and pronouns from the get-go, and I never needed to deal with those cringe conversations of constantly updating people.

Fields That Are Genuinely Welcoming

From my professional life and talking with other transgender workers, here are the areas that are actually putting in effort:

**Technology**

Tech companies has been incredibly progressive. Organizations such as prominent tech corporations have comprehensive inclusion initiatives. I secured a job as a tech specialist and the support were incredible – complete coverage for gender-affirming expenses.

One time, during a team meeting, someone by mistake used wrong pronouns for me, and like half the team in seconds jumped in before I could even respond. That's when I knew I was in the right place.

**Creative Fields**

Graphic design, advertising, content development, and similar fields have been really good. The culture in artistic communities is usually more inclusive inherently.

I worked at a marketing agency where copyright was seen as an strength. They recognized my authentic voice when building diverse content. On top of that, the salary was respectable, which rocks.

**Healthcare**

Funny enough, the medical field has progressed significantly. Continuously more health systems and healthcare organizations are hiring transgender staff to provide quality care to diverse populations.

I have a friend who's a nurse and she mentioned that her facility really compensates more for team members who complete diversity and inclusion education. That's what we need we want.

Naturally, agencies centered on human rights work are very inclusive. The money may not match industry positions, but the purpose and support are outstanding.

This is huge. Transition-related treatment is expensive AF. While job hunting, for sure check if their health insurance includes HRT, medical procedures, and therapy treatment.

Various workplaces even give allowances for legal name changes and associated expenses. That kind of support is top tier.

From years of experience, here's what helps:

**Look Into Workplace Culture**

Search sites including Glassdoor to check reviews from existing workers. Look for discussions of LGBTQ+ policies. Check their online presence – have they celebrate Pride Month? Do they have clear affinity groups?

**Network**

Participate in transgender professional networks on professional platforms. For real, creating relationships has landed me more jobs than standard job apps ever did.

Fellow trans folks helps fellow community members. I've seen countless examples where one of us can post positions explicitly for transgender applicants.

**Document Everything**

Unfortunately, prejudice still happens. Save notes of every inappropriate comments, denied accommodations, or unequal treatment. Having evidence can support you if needed.

Younger generations is entering the workplace with totally new standards about acceptance. They're aren't accepting prejudiced workplaces, and organizations are changing or missing out on good people.
